Domain Hosting Fee
(the .com or .net yearly fee) paid by client*
¨
Web Server Space
(the host computer’s server space where the site is accessed
by the public) client pays*
¨
Domain Name
Search and registration fee $50 (client can do this
themselves if they like)*. This is the actual search to make
sure the name you want is not already taken. It is best to
supply three possible web site names you would like, in
order of preference. Once the web site’s domain name is
found and the client agrees that it should be purchased, the
client must meet with the designer to use their credit card
to buy the domain and web hosting package. The web site and
its domain become the property of the client from that point
on. If the client is unable to meet in person, all
communications can be done by phone and email.
¨
Text File preparation: It is best if a client does their own
text preparation and editing, supplying McAusland Studios
with ready to go text on CD, Zip disc or sent by email as
plain or html text (just copy paste your web text into the
body of your email like a normal message). If the designer
must type hand written documents, a $40 per hour fee will be
applied.
¨
Image file Preparation: Each image to be added to the web
site can either be provided by the client as a web ready
image (72dpi grayscale, JPEG of GIF file formatted image, no
larger than 8” on it’s longest edge), or, the designer can
scan and prepare each image at a fee of $5.
¨
Labor cost to make a basic web site about $400.
¨
Changes to site after completion and upload: $40 an hour.
See payment, below.
¨
Register Site with Search Engines: $25 (includes creation of
a keyword list embedded on site’s home page for search
engine ‘spiders’ to locate and index.
¨

* I am currently using a US
company for hosting and domain name registration, as even
with the exchange rate, the prices cannot be beat locally or
even within Canada. ( $9 a year domain name and about $50.00
a year for 5GB of file space, which is tons!) If supporting
your local web hosting company is important to you, and to
your potential visitors, we can make arrangements for this
option.
Payment: The fees
for getting your web site made, loaded and registered with
search engines is split into three portions, with the
deposit and final payments made for the graphic designer’s
own labor and material costs, and the third portion going to
the web host and registration fees for he domain’s name.
Here is a break down:
¨
Deposit to designer
50% of anticipated labor cost including any image scanning
and typing fees, based on previous quote supplied by
McAusland Studios.
¨
Hosting and domain name Fees:
These are two separate costs to a site’s owner, and can be
bought through separate providers if needed. It is
recommended to buy them both through the same source;
something McAusland Studios will do on your behalf with the
client present using the client’s own credit card. The
current costs for a domain are about $9 per year for a .com,
while a hosting package through godaddy.com in the USA can
cost as little as $50.00 per year; these costs drop if you
purchase more than one year at the time of application.
McAusland Studios is not the owner of your site, and the
client is free to take over changes and uploads themselves
or even find another web designer to handle the account. The
client will be given all codes, usernames and passwords when
applying for the site.
¨
Final payment upon upload date:
When the client is happy with the beta version of the web
site, he or she can then pay the remaining 50% or any other
mutually agreed upon additional work ( design, illustration,
copy writing, photography, additional pages not planned in
the original ‘site map’, etc.
¨
Changes and additions:
You may wish to add content to a web site from time to time,
especially when you have new material to show case, a change
of address or email, or want to add a new page or two. For
this, McAusland Studios charges $50 an hour, considerably
lower than the going rates of most web designers ($88). Many
changes may only take a half hour to accomplish, and
secondly, new pages based on the existing site template are
fairly straight forward. No work will proceed without the
client first approving the amount of anticipated hours work.
