The Legend of the Sea :: McAusland Studios, mermaid and dolphins

The Legend of the Sea A 36 x 48 inch canvas. I never felt this one was completed, so the stretcher bars were removed and it was rolled up and stowed away someplace. I can't guess how long this took, as I redid the mermaid's face a dozen times, tried different techniques with the scales, and toyed with her hair way to many times. Still, I like parts of this, even to this day, but most of all wonder how the hell I had the time and patience to render something so massive, especially when living in such tiny West end apartments. Nowadays ( 2007) most of my work is 8.5 x 11 inches , or at the most,16 x 20".
